SUMMARY:TRAINING: Theory of Change for Advocacy and Policy Influencing: Design\, Implementation and Measurement
DESCRIPTION:About the Training \nFor non-profits engaged in advocacy work\, even on the narrowest and most local issues\, defining and measuring success can be daunting. Advocacy and policy programs are complex to implement and even more challenging to document results if the M&E design is not carefully considered from the beginning. The typical approach to successful measurement in direct service—developing a linear theory of change and measuring progressively until you can prove your model’s effectiveness—often fails in advocacy contexts. Waiting to measure until the “end outcome” is achieved is also impractical\, as this could take decades. The overall objective of this training is to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become more effective practitioners in your countries. This training is designed to be practical\, incorporating exercises that provide skills\, encourage participation\, and facilitate information exchange. We will guide you through designing an effective Theory of Change for policy and advocacy programs. Additionally\, we will show you how to link your Theory of Change to your Results Framework and how to collect policy and advocacy results during implementation. \nLearning Objectives \nBy the end of the training\, participants will: (1) Have the necessary skills and knowledge on how a TOC for Policy and Advocacy programme is designed; (2) Have an understanding on the factors to consider when designing and implementing a policy and advocacy TOC; (3) Have explored ways to facilitate and promote TOC approaches within their own organisation and advocacy programmes; and (4) Have improved skills on how to use a TOC in monitoring and evaluating policy and advocacy interventions based on a set of advocacy tools designed and tested by Evidence Frontiers. \nLearning Modules \nThe three days training will cover the following 8 modules: \n\nModule1: Introduction to the Theory of Change approach\nModule2: Linking Political Economy Analyses (PEA) to ToC design\nModule3: Understanding factors that influence advocacy results\nModule4: How to describe the desired advocacy goal\nModule5: Mapping advocacy priorities/asks\nModule6: Mapping pathways of Change\nModule7: Mapping Assumptions\nModule8: How to Monitor and Evaluate advocacy interventions\n\nCost format and Costs \nThis will be a 3-day face-to-face course held at Fairview Hotel in Nairobi\, Kenya\, followed by a 90-minute one-to-one coaching session after the course (via Skype) with the course trainers. This individual\, tailored coaching will focus on your specific needs\, helping you apply the course learning to your work and addressing current challenges\, difficulties\, and opportunities with a highly experienced practitioner.
