Evidence Frontiers partnered with HelpAge International to carry out a comprehensive Baseline Assessment for the Better Health for Older People in Africa Programme. This initiative spanned across Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, focusing on establishing initial benchmarks related to the health status, access to services, and social protection mechanisms impacting older individuals in the selected communities. Our team utilized a mixed-methods design, adeptly collecting both quantitative and qualitative data via household surveys, health facility assessments, and focus group discussions.
This approach ensured a thorough understanding of the diverse perspectives and contextual variations present in each country. The baseline assessment yielded critical insights that highlighted barriers to healthcare access, caregiving dynamics, and existing policy gaps within ageing and health systems. These findings were instrumental in informing program design, shaping monitoring frameworks, and developing robust advocacy strategies at both national and regional levels, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for older individuals in these regions.
